HEART-MIND CONNECTION: A SIMPLE, YET POWERFUL TECHNIQUE FOR COMPLETE TRANSFORMATION
It doesn’t have to be Valentine’s Day for you to work with matters concerning the heart. Thanks to new scientific research, it turns out that having a heart centered practice is appropriate for all seasons—and essential for a number of reasons…
The heart-mind connection
Sure, it sounds completely counter-to-truth, yet it is so: your heart talks to your brain. They are in an ongoing conversation with each other and it’s non-stop. Your heart and your mind are in bed with each other, intimately connected in more ways than we know. It’s just up to us whether or not the relationship is a loving one…
But what is known: Your heart is constantly sending out signals to your brain as to what type of energy to release into your body. Your heart is where your emotions lie, the spectrum of love/fear, directly influencing your thoughts (and vice-versa)—thus predicting your actions.
If you can allow yourself just a couple of moments to become familiar with merging your feelings with your thoughts, you will find yourself being beyond gifted with an indescribable sense of clarity and sense of blissful well-being (among other things).
YOUR HEART IS ITS OWN BRAIN…
Your heart has around 40,000 sensory neurites, which are brain like cells. So, it’s not too off-base then to consider your heart as its own brain. It’s able to learn, remember, and communicate independently.
It’s clearly the smarter brain: Through the heart you are granted access to intuitive information that’s not readily available to your conditioned mind, which always feels the need to filter everything through a lens that’s largely negative. But your heart doesn’t see it that way…
Everything is energy and your heart is an ace at reading it. And this reading—as well as what you are putting out to be read—extends beyond yourself and out into the “Quantum Field”; aka what is responsible for reflecting back to you your inner-experience.
Yes, your brain does this as well. But the research shows that your heart is the strongest bioelectrical and magnetic field generator in your body - up to 5,000 times more powerful magnetically than your brain. Its field extends 3 meters around your body.
benefits of A heart-mind CONNECTION
What makes this technique so appealing is that it’s easy to do. There is no prepping or ritual. Anywhere that there’s a minute of downtime it could be done. Coupled with its enormous transformative qualities, this makes the heart-mind connection meditation a fan favorite here at WOTRP.
Easy and accessible- It can be practiced anywhere at any time and nobody needs to know what you are doing.
Access deep intuition- Your heart is not conditioned like your mind. Your heart can pick up information without having to run it through the filters of fear, worry, and doubt. Who knows what you’ll find out…
Prevents heart disease- It’s understood by experts that our thoughts have a profound effect on our hearts well-being. People with depression and anxiety are 2 to 3 times more likely to suffer from heart disease. In fact, the American Heart Associate (AHA) recommends that you meditate.
Treats depression- And since your heart and brain are connected, the above works both ways. A healthy heart is a happy mind.
Provides clarity- Your heart’s rhythmic function is directly related to your cognitive functions. Stress and negative emotions limit your ability to think. Under such conditions, you’re much more likely to make impulsive decisions and have a difficult time learning and remembering things.
Conversely, positive emotions fostering a stable heart rate show to have the opposite effect. Positive emotions increase your cognitive functions and you’re able to learn and process information at much higher rates.
Boost affirmations- It makes your daily affirmations much more powerful. With a heart-mind connection practice you are able to bypass the logic of your conscious mind and create a direct line to your subconscious by putting it into a super learning state.
Provides an overall sense of well-bring- When your heart and your mind are in harmony, you just feel good.
The Heart-mind connection technique
This heart-mind connection technique can be found in the arsenal of Dr. Joe Dispenza meditations and taught by Gregg Braden as “heart-mind coherence”. Both Joe and Gregg are giants in the spiritual and personal-development fields, gold standard teachers who are on the cutting edge. They both, along side Dr. Bruce Lipton, work with the The HeartMath Institute which is a group of scientists dedicated to heart-mind connection research. So, you can rest well knowing that this practice is backed by science.
Below I will take you through the heart-mind connection meditation in the form that it was taught to me…
1. First, you’ll touch your heart
I use the palm of my hand. The reason for this is because awareness will go where you feel sensation. This helps you to drop out of your mind and down into your heart.
2. Next, you’ll slow your breathing
I like to be mindful of my breath and let it relax on its own, but you are more than welcome to do this in any way that you’d like.
It can be helpful to count the in-breath for 5 seconds and then the out-breath for 5 seconds.
Calming the breath allows your mind to slow down and to let go of stress hormones; allowing the internal healing chemistry of your parasympathetic nervous system to awaken (the same process found in Yoga Nidra).
3. Finally, we focus on the feelings that accompany the words “care”, “appreciation”, “gratitude”, and “compassion”
Also known as the “language of the heart”. It’s labeled such because these 4 words will automatically trigger a coherence between your heart and your brain.
you can focus on one of these words or any combination of them, as you focus on the feeling where the awareness is on your heart…
